Beaches in Manuel Antonio
The beaches are one of the area’s main advantages. The national park beaches are protected and beautiful. Espadilla is the main public beach outside the park. Biesanz is a smaller cove that can be good for calmer swimming and boat activity depending on conditions.
The best beach choice depends on whether you want convenience, beauty, swimming, or a combined nature experience.
One safety note that matters. Playa Espadilla has strong rip currents and a history of drownings. It is one of the few beaches in Costa Rica with a lifeguard service, which is a real advantage, but only if you use it: swim within the patrolled section during patrolled hours, check the warning flags before going in, and keep children supervised at all times. If you are caught in a rip, float rather than fight it and swim parallel to the shore until the pull releases.
